Status Update
We are very happy to announce that we have been able to secure an exhibition space for the project. This exhibition will be held at
The Foundry in Shoreditch, London from Thursday 4th December 2008 to Sunday 7th December 2008. For those of you that may not have heard of it before this space is incredibly popular with the local art scene and will result in all work gaining maximum exposure, which is one of the main reasons we have chosen to host our exhibition at this venue. Our opening night will also be on one of the famed Time Out First Thursdays, which is essentially a tour of all new shows in East London galleries that happens on the first thursday of every month (for more information go to
[link]) This will ensure even greater numbers of people could potentially be seeing your work.
To get involved in this project please see the Submission Guidelines below for more information.
For more information you can check out our website at
[link]What is the Secrets Exhibition?
Secrets is a multimedia exhibition that is being curated by a group of artists in London at the beginning of December 2008. The theme of the exhibition is Secrets and all work that is exhibited will be shown within a constructed environment with which the audience must interact in order to find the artworks. The concept of viewer participation is essential to this project and links in with ideas related to voyeurism as well as notions of the surveillance society.
How can I get involved with this project?
Secrets is open for submissions from
EVERYBODY, whether you are an established artist or just a self proclaimed enthusiast. All works are welcome, this is a completely multimedia exhibition. As long as the work is a stylized artwork that relates to the theme of Secrets then it a valid entry for the exhibition. Interpret this as you will, explore the concept, try coming with something fresh and exciting. Everything is valid, so go crazy.
Why did you add my work to your favourites?
If we have added your work to our favourites it is because we have seen your portfolio and would like you to submit to the exhibition as you already have work in your gallery that is similar to the theme we are curating. We hope that you will consider doing so. Please rest assured that work will not be used unless express permission is given by the artist and they submit the work to the email address specified below.
When is the deadline?
All works submitted to us must be done so by Friday 14th November 2008. This will allow us to edit down the entries and choose those that we feel best reflect the overall theme that we are trying to convey to the audience. Unfortunately any submissions received after this point will not be considered.
How do I submit my work?
All submissions should be sent to
submissions@secrets-exhibition.co.uk with an email subject line of
Submission for (Artists Name). This will allow us to track which emails belong to which artist. Also please include a very brief description of the concept of your artwork. Please send submissions from an email address that you use frequently. If we should need to contact you for any reason then we shall do so by email and fast responses are critical. All photographic work should be sent by email and be no larger than 600 pixels wide. All paintings, sculptures, and other 3D constructed art should be photographed from multiple angles and the photos should be sent by email (again no larger than 600 pixels wide please). All videos or photographic slideshows should be uploaded to YouTube and the direct URL link should be sent to us via the submission email.
What if my work gets chosen to go in to the exhibition?
Once we have chosen the works that we wish to display in the exhibition we shall contact the chosen artists and ask them to submit the full-sized artwork to us within a specified time period. If we contact you and the work is not received by the date given then unfortunately we shall have to withdraw the offer of displaying your work and give it to someone as we are on a very limited timescale. We are very sorry to say that we cannot return work, so if you are sending a sculpture or painting then you shall need to organise return delivery. If this is an issue then please contact us for more details.
Who owns the copyright to my work?
Please be aware that copyright for all work will remain with the artist. However any work chosen to participate may well go on to promotional flyers for the exhibition, our website or a show catalogue when the work is completed. We will NOT be selling artists work for this exhibition. This is a collaborative project for people to get thier work out there in to the art scene. This is a non-profit exhibition.
I have questions that aren't answered by this journal. Who do I contact?
If you should have any issues or questions then please do contact us at
queries@secrets-exhibition.co.uk. We hope to hear from you soon and good luck with your submission.
